Earth Care's Youth Allies offers a number of youth development, leadership, and organizing programs for young people in northern New Mexico including:
A Youth Action Network that meets monthly to help young people connect to others who are passionate about making a difference and taking leadership in the community. Network meetings are structured to support relationship building as well as deepen participants' awareness, knowledge, skills, and experience in sustainability, social justice, and positive activism & community engagement. The Youth Action Network also connects young people to community engagement opportunities throughout the year as well as scholarships, youth grant opportunities, support services, and pretty much anything else our youth participants need. This program is open to any young person age 13-20. Anyone can join at any point throughout the year.
An intensive Leadership Training Institute for youth ages 13-19. This training program is for young people who are interested in taking their leadership to the next level through intensive training in cross-cultural relationship building, leadership, social, economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability, and organizing. This program is open to 35 youth per year from Native, Hispano, Immigrant, Anglo, and other diverse backgrounds.
An advanced Organizing Program which delves deeper into the theory and practice of social change. Participants explore their personal areas of passion and develop community improvement projects that utilize their strengths & interests, apply what they've learned, and address key areas of sustainable community development & global justice. This program is open to 10 youth per year who have already received training and experience through another Youth Allies Program. Organizers receive intensive mentorship and a stipend for college upon successful completion of the program.
A civic engagement program, The Youth Advisory Board to the Sustainability Commission is a nine-person youth board that works alongside the City of Santa Fe's Mayor appointed Sustainability Commission to implement the Sustainable Santa Fe Plan and take action to reduce our community's carbon footprint.
Youth Voices for Change is a program in partnership with Youth Media Project and other nonprofits to bring youth voices for sustainability and justice to public discussions and to decision-making tables by connecting youth to key resources such as media training, community and civic engagement opportunities, and gatherings throughout the State.
